Fixed vs. Growth Mindset

Just reviewed a fascinating article here from the weekly newsletter from Brain Picking — basically laying out the research showing the fundamental difference between a fixed and a growth oriented mindset. I’m sure you have come across some of these finding before in various popular forums: as an example, reinforcing “good effort” tends to reinforce a growth mindset and lead to taking on new challenges, whereas reinforcing “being correct” tends to lead to a fixed mindset and a reluctance to be seen to “fail” by taking on a new challenge. And which one does our education system seem to put the emphasis on?  Happy reading — well worth it:

“I thought I would let you know, that Information Meetings, as developed by CC, have become a very effective instrument in my business of selling management consulting to CEOs. Originally, using the traditional approach of calling or emailing a CEO on saying how much we could help them and how greatly they would benefit, I got a polite ‘not interested’ time after time, if not a downright refusal to even talk with me on the phone. Now using the Information Meeting approach, I make a connection almost all of the time.” – B.C.
